Welcome to the Help Centre

Have a question or a little unsure what to do, then hopefully we can provide the right support and guidance for you here. We have compiled below the answers and help for some of the most common questions or problems.

I've lost my pet

If your pet is missing we recommend you take the following steps:

  • Check with your neighbours to make sure your pet is not with them or hiding somewhere, pay particular attention to sheds and garages where your pet may have been accidently trapped.
  • If you have lost your dog whilst out walking, trace the route of your “normal” walk.
  • Log-in to your identibase® account or call identibase® on 01904 487 600 to report your pet as missing.
  • If you're a member of identibase® premium you can use the identifind® enhanced reuniting service, 24/7 365 days a year. We will send a local alert to rescue centres, charities and veterinary surgeries in your area as well as produce ‘Lost’ posters on your behalf and mail them to you for displaying locally.
  • Try not to panic, we have reunited thousands of missing pets with their worried keepers thanks to their microchip.
  • Finally, please remember to let us know when your pet comes home so that we can ensure the records on identibase® are accurate and up to date.
I've found a stray pet

If you’ve found a stray pet there are a few things you need to know about your legal obligations. We recommend you take the following steps for dogs and cats…

If you’ve found a dog…

  • Check if the dog has a coller and ID tag, if it does try contacting the keeper.
  • If the dog does not have an ID tag you must contact the local authority dog warden immediately and arrange for them to collect the dog.
  • Please note: Rescue centres are unable to take in stray dogs from members of the public.

It is a legal requirement that you contact the local authorities and advise them if you find a stray dog. This ensures that the dog can be thoroughly scanned to check if a microchip is present and gives worried keepers the best possible chance of being reunited with their pet.

If you’ve found a cat…

  • Ask your neigbours whether there is a cat missing; often cats believed to be strays do, in fact, belong to someone local.
  • Call your local Cats Protection or RSPCA to report the cat and make a request for someone to come and collect it.
  • If the cat is injured they will ask you to take it to the nearest vet.
Check which database a microchip belongs to

We have a chip checker on our home page where you can enter the microchip number to quickly find out which database the chip belongs to. Use our chip checker.

Registering a foreign microchip

In order for identibase® to register a microchip that has come from outside of the UK we would need evidence of the microchip number.

Please download, complete and return a foreign chip registration form (Download Here) along with a copy of your pet’s passport (the page with the microchip number and pets details) or import documents that clearly show the microchip number. If you do not have these documents please ask your vet to confirm the microchip number in writing (please send together with your documents).

Once we have received these documents and the microchip is registered, we will send you a certificate of confirmation.

By registering a foreign microchip you will be required to become a member of identibase® plus or identibase® premium. There is a one-off cost of £15.95 to join identibase® plus or £20.95 to join identibase® premium. This cost is for the full lifetime of your pet, and will enable you to make unlimited amends to your details (details will need to be updated every time you move home, takes your pet on holiday or puts them into holiday care such as kennels). Registering as a breeder of dogs

If you are a breeder, no matter how big or small (even if this is your first litter), you will need to register on identibase® as a breeder.

To register as a breeder click here.

Once you have joined you will then be able to register your litter using their microchip numbers. It is a legal requirement that each puppy is microchipped and registered in the first 8 weeks.

As you then start to rehome the litter, you will then need to log in to your breeder account and click the “rehome” button for the relevant pet you are rehoming. You will need to enter the details of the new keeper (we recommend that an email address of the new keeper is provided. This is the fastest way to register the new keeper and it enables identibase® to help straightaway with the reuniting process if the pet becomes lost within the first few days). The new keeper will then receive a microchip certificate and confirmation that their new pet is registered with them.

I need to register my pet

If you have recently had your pet microchipped it is important that they are registered as soon as possible.

The quickest and easiest way to register your pet’s microchip is online. You will need your microchip number and a vet code to complete the form (if you’re unsure what the vet code is, just ask the vet who implanted the microchip for the code). Please click here to go to our registration page.

When registering online it is recommended that you provide your email address. This is the fastest way to complete your registration online and ensures we can help you straightaway with the reuniting process if your pet becomes lost within the first few days.

If you are unable to gain a vet code then please download and complete the Change of Details Form.
